• 반려동물과 함께 런웨이... 특별한 추억 만들어

구미시는 22일 동락공원에서 '동락으로 오시개(이번엔 런웨이다!)'라는 주제로 「제6회 구미시 반려동물 문화축제」를 개최했다.

구미시가 주최하고 한국반려동물문화협회(회장 이명훈)가 주관한 이번 축제는 반려동물과 반려인이 함께 어울리는 축제의 장을 만들어 반려동물에 대한 인식 개선과 성숙한 반려동물 문화 조성을 위해 마련됐다.

The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show presented by Purina Pro Plan, America's second-longest continuously held sporting event after the Kentucky Derby, announced that Geir Flyckt-Pedersen, one of the most prominent judges in the U.S., will select Best in Show at the 147th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on May 9, 2023.

Flyckt-Pedersen ascended to the highest echelon of breeders and handlers following a lifetime of involvement in the sport. Originally hailing from Norway, Flyckt-Pedersen now resides in Pepper Pike, Ohio. Throughout his career in dogs he has been awarded a slew of coveted honors which include becoming the first person to win both the Swedish and Norwegian Dog of the Year titles in the same year.

Flyckt-Pedersen’s success in the show ring is extensive. Beyond piloting his Welsh Terrier to Top Dog in Norway and Sweden, he and his late wife Gerd teamed up to achieve several notable wins. The following are included among the pair’s accolades:

• The team received the Tom Horner/Dog World's Award of Excellence for contributing to the British dog world;
• The team also won Best in Show at the prestigious all-terrier competition at Skansen, Sweden three times, and the Pup of the Year twice in England;
• Flyckt-Pedersen won Best in Show over 4,000 dogs with his Wire Fox Terrier in Helsinki, Finland, while Gerd won Reserve Best in Show with an English Cocker Spaniel at the same show; and
• They bred more than 100 Wire Fox Terrier champions and had Best in Show winners in five countries on the same day, making Louline, his Wire Fox Terrier kennel, world-famous.

While handling dogs in the show ring, Flyckt-Pedersen owned several breeds, including English Cocker Spaniels, Greyhounds, Whippets, Airedales, Norfolk Terriers, Lakeland Terriers, Smooth Fox Terriers, Standard and Giant Schnauzers.

As a judge, Flyckt-Pedersen has officiated around the world, including Crufts in England. This will be his fifth Westminster assignment, and he has officiated at the AKC National Championship and The Kennel Club of Philadelphia events.

His professional life included farming and serving as an executive with Skandia Transport. He is now retired and living with his two Norfolk Terriers.

2023 JUDGING PANEL

Seven Group Judges will select their picks for the Best in Show competition over two nights at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

On Monday, May 8, the following judges will select four group winners to advance to the Best in Show competition:

Edmund Dziuk of Columbia, Missouri for the Hound Group; Cindy Vogels of Greenwood Village, Colorado for the Toy Group; George Milutinovich of Fresno, California for the Non-Sporting Group; and Thomas W. Coen of Great Barrington, Massachusetts for the Herding Group.

On Tuesday, May 9, the following judges will select the remaining three group winners to advance to Best in Show:

Frank Kane of Cleveland, England for the Sporting Group; Paula Nykiel, of Washington, Missouri for the Working Group; and Connie H. Clark of Rio Del Mar, California, for the Terrier Group.

The Best Junior Handler award will be decided on Tuesday, May 9 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium by Junior Showmanship Finals Judge, Vicki Seiler-Cushman of Xenia, Ohio. The eight junior showmanship finalists will be determined in preliminary rounds by judges Lydia Armstrong Frey of Wellington, Florida, and Rachel Robertson of Charlotte, North Carolina.

The 10th Anniversary of the Masters Agility Championship at Westminster on Saturday, May 6, will be judged by Andrew Dicker of Reading, Berkshire, England, and Lori Sage of Oregon City, Oregon. Alice A. Peterson of Boise, Idaho, will officiate the 8th Annual Masters Obedience Championship at Westminster on Saturday, May 6, 2023.

28일 익산시에 따르면 '제16회 익산 FCI국제 도그쇼'가 다음 달 8일에서 9일까지 익산 종합운동장 보조경기장에서 열린다.

익산시가 주최하고 사단법인 한국애견연맹 익산지회가 주관하는 이번 행사는 국제 도그쇼의 정통성을 잇는 반려인들의 축제로 코로나19로 3년 만에 다시 열려 기대를 모으고 있다.

FCI 인터내셔널 도그쇼와 KKF 챔피언쉽 도그쇼를 비롯한 나의 반려동물과 함께하는 아마추어 어질리티(장애물 달리기) 체험 및 대회, 반려동물 장기자랑대회, 디스크독 교육 및 체험 등 시민참여 마당도 다채롭고 풍성하게 진행될 예정이다.

국제 도그쇼는 단순히 아름다운 개를 뽑는 것이 아니라 해당 견종의 특성을 가장 잘 갖춘 개를 선발하는 하나의 스포츠로 진돗개를 비롯해 치와와, 불도그, 골든 리트리버, 비숑 등 수입견 60여 종 약 1,000마리가 넘게 참가해 서로 다른 매력을 선보일 예정이다.

익산시는 국제도그쇼와 함께 '2022 익산 반려동물 문화축제'를 개최해 사람과 동물이 함께하는 문화축제로 한층 업그레이드한다.

'익산반려동물축제'를 통해 성숙한 반려 문화 확산을 통한 동물보호 공감대를 형성하고 다양한 볼거리, 체험행사 운영으로 많은 반려인과 시민들이 함께 참여해 즐길 수 있는 문화의 장을 마련했다.

이번 축제는 바람직한 반려문화 공감대 조성을 위해 원조 개통령 이웅종 토크쇼, 유기동물 입양캠페인, 동물보호 정책홍보, 전문가 펫티켓 특강이 준비돼 있다.

또 수제간식 만들기, 장난감 만들기 등 체험 프로그램뿐만 아니라 반려동물의 일대기에 맞춘 사료, 간식, 옷, 액세서리 등 반려동물용품의 모든 것을 전시 판매해 관심과 흥미를 끌 것으로 기대된다.

이밖에도 익산시는 반려동물 공공시설을 확충해 반려인에게 큰 호응을 얻고 있다.

함열읍 다송리 490-10에 조성한 잔디 반려동물 놀이터는 반려견이 목줄 없이 마음껏 뛰놀며 시민들과 안전하게 휴식 시간을 보낼 수 있다. 3천285㎡ 규모로 지어졌으며 중소형견ㆍ대형견 놀이터와 반려인 쉼터, 음수대, 놀이기구, 대형 파라솔, 벤치 등의 편의시설도 갖추고 있다.

운영시간은 매주 수~일요일 오전 10시에서 오후 6시까지로, 정기 휴장일은 매주 월ㆍ화요일이다. 이용료는 무료이며 동물등록을 마친 반려동물과 놀이터 내 안전을 위해 13세 미만의 어린이는 성인 보호자와 함께 입장이 가능하다.

정헌율 익산시장은 "3년 만에 열리는 '국제 도그쇼'와 함께 열리는 '2022 익산 반려동물 문화축제'는 타 지역과 차별화된 행사로서 많은 관심과 참여를 부탁드린다"며 "이번 대회를 통해 서로를 배려하는 성숙한 반려동물 문화가 확산하는 장이 되길 바란다"고 말했다.

정 시장은 "반려동물 문화 정착을 위한 관심과 지원으로 사람과 동물이 함께 행복한 도시로 가꿔나가겠다"고 덧붙였다.

세계적인 반려동물 식품 전문기업 네슬레 퓨리나가 세계 최고 권위의 도그쇼 중 하나인 미국 '웨스트민스터 켄넬 클럽 도그쇼(Westminster Kennel Club, 이하 WKC)'에서 프리미엄 사료 '프로플랜'을 급여받은 참가견들이 전 부문을 석권하며 5년 연속으로 프로플랜 급여견이 Best In Show(대상)를 수상했다고 1일 밝혔다.

WKC는 모든 견종이 참가할 수 있는 세계 3대 도그쇼로, 총 7개 부문에서 뽑힌 우승견 중 최종적으로 선발되는 1위 우승견에게 대상(Best in Show)이 수여된다. 뉴욕에서 열린 이번 대회에는 이틀간 총 200종, 3500여 마리의 출전견이 치열한 경쟁을 펼쳤다.

이번 대회 대상에 선정된 출전견 트럼팻(Trumpet)은 '프로플랜 퍼포먼스 30/20 닭고기 제품'을 급여 받은 것으로 나타났다. 트럼팻에게 급여된 제품은 활동량이 많은 반려견에 맞춰 설계된 제품으로 반려견의 근육 손실을 막아 준다. 그뿐만 아니라 이 제품은 관절 건강을 위한 영양분이 함유돼 반려견이 오랫동안 건강한 신체를 유지할 수 있도록 도와준다. 이 외에도 오메가 지방산이 풍부해 피부와 털 건강에도 도움을 주며, 필수 영양소를 가득 담아 강아지부터 성견까지 급여할 수 있는 전 연령용 제품이다.

대상을 받은 트럼팻 외에도 7개 부문의 우승견들은 모두 프로플랜 제품을 급여받았다. 허딩 그룹의 '리버(River)', 스포츠 그룹의 '벨레(Belle)', 워킹 그룹의 '스트라이커(Striker)', 테리어 그룹의 '엠엠(MM)'은 모두 '프로플랜 퍼포먼스 30/20' 급여받은 것으로 나타났다. 이 밖에도 비스포츠 그룹의 '윈스턴(Winston)'은 '프로플랜 민감한 장 건강 양고기&오트밀'을, 토이 그룹의 '할리우드(Hollywood)'는 '토이브리드 성견용' 제품을 급여 받았다.

사단법인 한국애견연맹은 3월 7일 이사회를 열고 송하경 현 한국애견연맹 이사 및 모나미 회장을 신임 총재로 선출했다고 밝혔다.

송하경 신임 총재는 연세대학교 응용통계학과를 졸업하고, 로체스터대학교 경영대학원 경영학 석사를 취득하였고, 현재 주식회사 모나미 대표이사 회장을 역임하고 있으며, 한국애견연맹 등기 이사로 20년 넘게 활동하면서 국내 애견문화 발전을 위해 꾸준히 노력해 왔다.

특히, 지난 2011년 국내 최초로 도그쇼 2천두가 넘는 애견이 참가한 '2011 FCI 아시아 퍼시픽 섹션쇼'의 대회장을 역임하여 국내 애견문화 발전과 국제화에 획기적인 전기를 마련했다는 평가를 받은 바 있으며, 국제 혈통서 등록 시스템 개발 지원, 애견 전문 분야별 해외 심사위원 초청을 통한 국제 교류, 애견 전문 훈련소 운영 등을 통해 국내 애견 문화 발전에 크게 기여해 왔다.

송하경 신임 총재는 애견 문화 발전을 위한 꾸준한 활동 외에도 실제로 로트바일러, 복서, 꼬똥 드 툴레아 등 다양한 견종을 직접 키우며 애견과 일상을 함께해 국내 기업인 중에서도 애견 사랑이 각별한 것으로 잘 알려져 있다.

송 총재는 취임과 관련해 "국제적 규모의 도그쇼와 애견미용 대회, 독스포츠 대회 등의 활발한 개최를 통해 국내 애견문화를 더욱 성숙하게 발전시키고, 애견미용사, 훈련사, 핸들러, 반려동물종합관리사 등 전문인력 양성을 지원하여 국내 애견인 여러분들께 더 좋은 서비스를 제공해 드리기 위해 임직원 여러분들과 함께 최선의 노력을 기울여 나가겠다"는 입장을 밝혔다.

국내 대표 반려동물 박람회인 '제30회 코리아펫쇼(KOPET 2021)'가 11월 26일(금)부터 28일(일)까지 양재동 aT센터에서 120여개사 200여 부스 규모로 개최된다.

코리아펫쇼에는 아래와 같이 볼거리, 즐길거리, 놀거리 등 다양한 이벤트가 준비되어 있어 방문객들에게 관람의 재미를 더 할 것으로 예상된다.

반려동물 사료, 간식, 용품뿐만 아니라 분양, 장묘, 케어 등 반려동물 서비스 분야까지 산업 전반에 걸쳐서 다양한 업체가 참가를 하여 반려인들에게 많은 볼거리를 제공할 것이다.

전시회와 아울러 한국비숑프리제클럽과 한국포메라니언클럽과 펫헬스에서 주관하는 '코리아 비숑프리제 그루밍 챔피언십’과 코리아 스페셜 도그쇼'가 개최되며, 한국애견연맹에서 주관하는 '훈련경기대회’' 개최되어 관람객들에게 멋진 즐길거리를 선물할 것이다.

놀거리

코리아경찰견훈련소의 주관으로 푸짐한 경품이 마련된 ‘반려동물 운동회’와 ‘반려동물 행동교정 세미나', '훈련시범' 이 준비가 되어 행사장을 찾는 반려동물인들에게 다양한 재미를 줄 것으로 기대된다.

국내 펫박람회 중에서 유일하게 국제인증(UFI)을 획득한 '코리아펫쇼'는 이번 전시회에서 중국 빅바이어 20여 개사를 초청하여 코로나19로 인하여 해외진출이 어려운 국내 펫 기업들의 수출 확대를 위하여 ‘온라인 수출상담회’를 진행한다.

특히 KOTRA와 (사)한국전시산업진흥회에서 추진하는 ‘해외 마케팅 지원사업’은 국내 반려동물 기업들의 글로벌 마케팅을 지원하는 사업이다.

전시회 참가기업들에게 각국 언어(5개국 언어선택)로 참가기업들의 제품 브랜드 소개 영상을 무료로 제작하여, 전 세계 62개국 20,000여 바이어를 대상으로 홍보함으로써, 국내 반려동물 기업들에게는 해외홍보의 특별한 혜택이 될 것으로 기대된다.
